For a small apartment with pets, buy around the space the robot can actually clean and the space its dock will occupy.
Make a simple room map
Sketch the rooms without worrying about scale. Mark doors, rugs, chair clusters, cables and the places where your pet rests or eats. Next, mark the areas that produce the most cleanup. This tells you whether the robot would reach the work you want it to take over.
List any closed doors or awkward thresholds between the dock and those areas. A robot that needs you to relocate it for each short run may not match the convenience you expected. Put those routes on your trial checklist while the seller’s return window is still open.
Reserve the whole dock footprint
Allow for the station itself, the clearances specified in its manual, a nearby outlet and access to remove a bag or container. Use removable tape to mark that space on the floor. Check that a door can still open and that nobody must step over the equipment.
eufy provides C10-specific guidance on station placement and failed returns. Use the instructions for the exact machine you buy; clearance requirements are not interchangeable between brands. Avoid hiding a station simply because it looks neater if the location prevents a dependable return route.
Furniture height can matter more than apartment size
The C10 manufacturer page lists a 2.85-inch robot height. That is a useful example of a specification to compare with your sofa’s lowest opening, rather than assuming every model fits beneath it. Allow for uneven floors, low trim and the clearance instructions in the manual.
Also measure the width of the route in. A robot may be low enough to fit under a bed but have no practical way past a storage box or closely spaced chair legs. Check the entire route, not just the height of the opening.
| Area | Record before buying | Check during early runs |
|---|---|---|
| Sofa or bed | Lowest opening and access route | Whether the robot enters and leaves without help |
| Rugs and doors | Edges, tassels and thresholds | Restrictions and repeat trouble spots |
| Pet feeding area | Bowls, mats and spill area | Whether an exclusion boundary keeps the robot clear |
| Dock | Manual clearances and service access | Successful return and easy container access |
Plan the pet area separately
eufy support suggests keeping loose objects and cables off the floor and using boundaries around pet bowls for the C10. Check that any model you are considering has the specific controls you need. A mapping feature on a product listing is not, by itself, proof that every object on your floor will be recognized.
Inspect for pet accidents and spills before starting. Give the animal a quiet place away from the first supervised runs. Adjust the route and timing based on what you observe, rather than leaving a new machine unattended immediately.
Separate vacuuming from the need to mop
Write down the problem in plain terms: loose fur, crumbs, paw marks or several different tasks. Check exactly what the proposed package does and what it asks you to maintain. If you add mopping, account for the model’s floor restrictions, pad care and any tanks or supplies.
For a first purchase, fewer features can make sense when they match the chore. Equally, do not choose a smaller device if it omits the one function you need. Our self-emptying guide can help you judge whether a station earns its space.
A useful first-week record
After each early run, note the rooms reached, stops requiring help, bin condition and any hair you remove manually. Compare this with the cleanup you used to do. That record gives you a practical reason to keep or return the machine, instead of judging it only by its app map.
